Winners of Marqeta’s 2020 Spring Payments Hackathon

For the last two months, Marqeta has hosted the 2020 Spring Payments Hackathon, inviting developers from across the community to build an app or SDK with our modern card issuing platform. We asked developers to build something that made developing with Marqeta even better, whether its a sample app, an SDK, or a library.

The submission window closed at the start of June 2020 with over 175 participants signed up. Last week, a group of our expert payments developers judged each submission and selected three winning entries! The first-place winner will receive a $1,000 prize! Second and third place winners will receive $500 and $250, respectively.

The following submissions won our top three prizes:

Third place: Meta Identity is an identity management tool for securing finances when traveling abroad. Submitter Fragment X describes it as, “the Privacy.com of the travel industry, with features like 1Password natively embedded into the software.”

Second place: Reignite is a service that provides gift cards to businesses in need. Submitter AJ Rahim says: “COVID-19 has presented challenges to many different industries. One of the greatest challenges is the economic impact caused by the need to shut down businesses…Reignite provides small/local businesses a simple gift card solution to help boost their income.”

First place: The Marqeta Extended Expense Tracker (or MEET) is an expense management tool for companies willing to forgo tradition and move to a tool that lets you have perspective over where your company stands. Built by Manu Puduvalli, Samuel Yuen, Yi Jian Ma Ma, and William Vega, MEET “allows companies to follow a plan-based approach of how they want their funds to be distributed. MEET enables managers to create plans for when they want money to be distributed to their department’s employees or whether they need to transfer funds to another department.”

For more information on each of our winners, check out their submission pages on Devpost.

Thanks again to everyone who signed up and submitted their projects to be judged. We know hackathons can be a challenge, doubly so in times like these, and we appreciate the level of effort everyone put into their submissions. Watch out for future developer events from Marqeta!
