CEO Jason Gardner named Bay Area’s Most Admired CEOs

We’re thrilled to share that our founder and CEO, Jason Gardner, was named one of the Most Admired CEOs of 2020 by the San Francisco Business Times. One of 12 CEOs named to the list, he received his award during a virtual event held on November 5, 2020. 

Since 2007, the Most Admired CEOs list has been recognizing the most influential and seasoned business leaders in the Bay Area. Jason was recognized for his success as an entrepreneur and for leading a company with a strong vision, culture, and values. The San Francisco Business Times also chose the winners based on their philanthropic efforts and the contributions they have made to their local communities, especially throughout the 2020 economic crisis and pandemic. 

Jason sees leadership as an act of service — to the people who make up Marqeta, to Marqeta’s customers, and to Oakland, where Marqeta is headquartered. Building businesses is a passion for him, and his personal way of giving back. “You only have one life,” he noted. He was selected for the award by an independent panel of judges who considered hundreds of nominations for CEOs from around the Bay Area.
