Position Summary

Marqeta is looking for an experienced, highly driven Sales Engineer who will support the New Market Entry team. You will engage with new customer opportunities, help respond to inbound opportunities, and work closely with our account executives to shepherd deals from opening, through to contract and closing stage. Beyond pre-sales, you'll be expected to lead the technical integration with the customer to ensure the solution is go-live ready.

We are looking for a sales engineer whose professional DNA is rooted in both Technology and Sales. Your work will inevitably include networking to build relationships, contributing to sales presentations, workflow modeling, solution design and ensuring our customers fully grasp the value in our platform. Key to this role is an ability to understand Marqeta's technology, expertly communicate its benefits, and win the trust of the product and technology teams of our potential partners. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Know the Tech: Quickly get up to speed on Marqeta's technical capabilities, the unique features and customer benefits our platform offers and how to speak with confidence, knowledge and credibility about what we bring to our customers. This is likely to include working with our Product and Technology teams, and serving as a liaison and "voice of our customers" when engaging with them.
  • Support the Sales Process: From your first day, you will be expected to work on real customer opportunities through a sales process, from initial engagement to pricing discussions to final contract negotiations. At any given time, you may be supporting as many as 20 - 30 opportunities in various stages of that process.
  • Customer Focus: You have an incredible passion around making sure to always exceed our customer's expectations. You push yourself, and the entire team, to ensure our customers are delighted throughout their journey.
  • Transparency and Communication: You are focused on communication of projects whether it’s progress or roadblocks, so all teams are tightly connected and you know what’s already happened and what’s happening next. You will be generous with your time and energy, to your customers and your team.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Proactively seek opportunities to deepen your expertise in local nuances, including but not limited to customer expectations, product-market fit, network mandates, and regulations
  • Manage the customer’s technical journey from sales to go live
  • Support Sales and Customer Success activities in market, approaching all conversations with a customer centric mindset
  • Highly self-motivated and feels at home working aggressive schedules
  • Master disambiguator/simplifier - constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery.

Requirements

In addition to proven ability to manage cross functional projects, we’re on the hunt for the following attributes:

  • 3+ years of experience in payments.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Foundation of integrity and strong character to consistently represent Marqeta’s values.
  • Successful track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with contacts at all levels (including senior executives to technical stakeholders).
  • Adaptable to new information regarding industry, competitors, and market conditions.
  • Drive to influence Marqeta’s culture, inspiring direct reports and our broader organization to exceed expectations.
  • Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high-quality deliverables.
  • A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance and craves high-quality feedback from colleagues
  • Reliable, tolerant, and determined
  • Able to build strong working relationships across multiple teams
  • At home and at ease with technology, product, legal, B2B technology applications and how technology platforms serve customer businesses
  • Superior communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, presentation written, email)
