  About digital wallet token transitions
</h4>

As with other objects on the Marqeta platform, such as users and cards, digital wallet tokens can be independently transitioned between states.

The two most common use cases for transitioning a digital wallet token are token activation (such as yellow flow activation) and token termination (if a user has reported to you that their device or account was lost or stolen, for example).

Token activation is primarily handled automatically, but the ability to manually activate a token is a requirement of both Visa and Mastercard. You can meet this requirement through your own service applications using Marqeta’s APIs, or through the [Marqeta Dashboard](https://app.marqeta.com/). Tokens can be activated through automatic mechanisms and can be terminated by the user directly on their phone or by "find my device" features. You will be notified through webhooks of these changes.

<Danger>
  **Warning**\
  Wallet tokens will remain active unless explicitly terminated, even if the underlying card state is changed.
