Senior Compliance Security Engineer

Job Description: 

As a Security Engineer focusing on Compliance Engineering at Marqeta, you will be part of the recently formed Compliance Engineering team which is responsible for implementing and automating security compliance controls across the company, while providing easy and transparent reporting on controls effectiveness.

You will be responsible for one or many components of the Marqeta Security Compliance platform, and work with cross-functional partners to execute a roadmap, and deliver compliance-as-code software that is effective and efficient. You will be hands-on with the codebase.

This is a Senior Individual Contributor (Senior IC) role typically requiring 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 2 years of experience with an advanced degree. Formal education / degree requirements can be waived for candidates who can demonstrate that they have been able to leverage their existing experience, knowledge, and specialization to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Formulate compliance engineering design patterns in order to create “policy as code”.

  • Implement security compliance controls across systems and services.

  • Implement automation, data collection and reporting of controls effectiveness.

  • Assist with control design by taking a security and automation first approach.

  • Bring new ideas, designs, and tools to the table, contribute in technical discussions and decision making related to the development and technology stack.

Requirements

Must-Have

  • At least 2 years of solid infrastructure security engineering experience.

  • Experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications.

  • Experience with Infrastructure Security across cloud technologies.

  • Experience with security compliance management and reporting tools like JupiterOne, Blue Lava and/or Resolver.

  • Experience with agile software development, managing execution plans, and tracking milestones.

  • Team player with strong collaboration skills.

Nice-to-Have

  • Prior compliance automation / “compliance as code” experience is a huge plus.

  • Experience in the Payment industry is a plus.

  • Experience with Cryptography, secrets management and PKI is a plus.

  • Experience with Compliance Standards (PCI, SOX, GDPR, SOC2) is a plus.
