Crystal Sumner joins Marqeta as Chief Legal Officer

We’re excited to announce Crystal Sumner as our new Chief Legal Officer and key member of our executive team. Crystal will be responsible for overseeing our global legal and regulatory affairs. 

Crystal brings more than a decade of legal and compliance experience to Marqeta at a time of continued innovation, as we focus on increasing our global platform functionality. Crystal will help the executive leadership at Marqeta scale our ability to serve a wide range of companies looking to expand into financial services. We’re thrilled to have her wisdom and expertise as we navigate the complexities of today’s regulatory environments.

Prior to Marqeta, Crystal held the Head of Legal, Compliance and Risk role at Blend, a cloud-based banking platform, where she was responsible for building and scaling all aspects of the legal, compliance and risk functions. During her tenure, she guided the company through its IPO in 2021. Prior to Blend, Crystal was an Enforcement Attorney at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 

Crystal is an advocate for equality in the workplace and empowering female leaders and is an active member of both the Women’s General Counsel Network and Chief, a professional leadership network focused on connecting and supporting women in executive roles.
