Position Summary

Marqeta is looking for Product Communications lead to join its growing Marketing team, with a passion for storytelling and evangelizing great products and technology. This role will support the growing Communications function at Marqeta, while also working cross-functionally with Marqeta’s product executives and leaders, Marketing, Customer Success, Product and Technology teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for telling the story of Marqeta’s products, solutions, and their impacts on the payments industry and consumer behavior. They’ll have a keen sense of curiosity, ability to distill complex material to tell a bigger story that connects to a wider audience. They’ll hit the ground running with a broad set of communications and public relations skills, shaping perception of the disruptive modern card issuing platform that has made Marqeta one of the leading brands in payments and fintech. They will shape primary research that helps prospects understand the industry imperatives that our products are built to solve for.

In this role, you will help shape Marqeta’s media strategy for all product announcements and tell evergreen stories about the impact of our product. You’ll proactively pitch stories to journalists and work everyday to connect the Marqeta product story with relevant journalists. You’ll work closely with our US and European PR agencies, manage end-to-end execution of media opportunities, and contribute as a writer when necessary. 

What You'll Do

This role will be responsible for leading critical parts of the communications and public relations function. You will work with product and product marketing teams to execute end-to-end media plans for product announcements, develop a base of media contacts covering product and technology stories and work to connect them with Marqeta’s story, take lead on Marqeta’s research reports that tell the story behind how consumer behavior is shifting and use Marqeta’s platform data to highlight industry trends. 

  • Be a key and vocal voice in developing a proactive and bold external media strategy to tell the story of Marqeta’s product and innovations.  
  • Partner with Marqeta’s product marketing team to develop media strategies for product launches and work as an end-to-end partner on the external launch journey, from writing press releases to preparing executives for interviews.   
  • Break out Marqeta’s platform story into relevant sub-themes and identify a relevant pool of reporters who will be needle-movers in developing Marqeta’s product and innovation brand in the media. 
  • Take lead on drafting bi-annual consumer surveys and research reports that show how product innovation like Marqeta’s modern card issuing platform is helping to drive a shift in consumer payment preferences. 
  • Work with our business analytics team to identify data stories that help illustrate relevant payment trends and show off the breadth of the Marqeta platform. 
  • End-to-end execution of incoming media opportunities: from pitching, to helping write executive talking points, to staffing interviews with Marqeta executives and reporters.
  • Be a key internal partner to our US and Europe PR agencies to help schedule and enable media opportunities they bring to us. 
  • Position Marqeta product leaders for prominent spots at key industry events, and help manage content development for all Marqeta speaking opportunities. 

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate for this role will have 4-6 years of work experience, with hands-on experience in product communications and technology PR, working with journalists and developing story ideas. Experience working with PR agencies is a huge plus. The right candidate will bring with them a skillset that will allow them to execute and thrive immediately, managing a broad portfolio of responsibility within a fast-paced environment. 

  • Bachelors Degree and 4-6 years of relevant work experience
  • Previous experience in product and technology communications 
  • Strong aptitude and enthusiasm for working in B2B tech PR and communications 
  • Previous fintech or payments experience is a plus
  • Great writer, with a natural flair for storytelling.
