Position Summary

Marqeta is looking for a Head of North American Sales to lead, grow, and manage our US-based sales organization.  Marqeta’s sales efforts cover a variety of Market Verticals and this role will provide oversight over the Sales team that prospects and sells directly into them.  You will have the opportunity to manage and coach a group of Account Executives and Sales Development Representatives with a proven track record of delivering results in the market and for the company.  This is a unique opportunity to take Marqeta’s high performing sales team to the next level as the company enters its next phase of growth.

The successful candidate will have a passion for leading high performing teams and coaching individuals to succeed.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sales efforts and play an influential role in setting our revenue growth strategy over the next few years.  Your day-to-day activities will include managing the Sales teams and serving as their primary advocate inside the organization. You must already be a sales leader and have significant experience in building teams, implementing processes to drive performance, and creating a culture that values a one-team effort while ensuring we exceed our targets.

Primary Responsibilities

Own and drive Marqeta’s sales efforts within the United States and Canada across our key Industry verticals.  Among your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the establishment and attainment of appropriate revenue targets for each core vertical:  Align Marqeta’s revenue objectives with our sales efforts.  Manage the sales organization and our sales funnel to achieve these revenue targets, keeping a performance rhythm within the team.
  • Provide regular coaching and guidance to the Sales Team:  Regularly coach the sales team and help them understand the company’s priorities.  Also, provide clarity on near-term and long-term goals so they can continue to work toward clear objectives in the marketplace.
  • Be an advocate within the organization to help the team succeed:  Work closely with your cross-functional peers to drive clarity and simplicity for the Sales organization to win with new prospects.
  • Play a key role in setting Marqeta’s long term revenue growth objectives:  Participate in strategy setting discussions with our VP of Business Development, CRO, and CFO to determine sales outlook and calibrate our revenue objectives over the coming quarters and years.


We’re on the hunt for the following attributes:

  • 10+ years experience in sales and sales management, preferably at a FinTech or high growth startup
  • Get excited about closing deals, but more excited about coaching and building scalable processes to help your team close deals
  • Strategic and transactional sales experience and personal history of consistent over-achievement on quota or revenue goals
  • Strong track record of recruiting, developing and retaining a high performing sales organization
  • Proven success working within a startup organization and culture along with establishing strong relationships across all functions
  • Have a clear understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. You aren’t shy about asking for help when you need it, and you don’t pretend to know things you don’t know.
  • Understanding of payments is a plus
