Developer Relations Lead

Position Summary

Marqeta’s platform is built by developers for developers. Supporting our developers is critical to the success of our platform. We are seeking a talented Developer Relations professional to lead the strategy and execution for our developer community and relations. The right person for this role has a passion for Developer Relations - to build, engage and grow our developer ecosystem. You will establish strong relationships with developers in a scalable way through online and offline channels. You will foster local developer communities, plan for events and programs to educate and inspire developers, champion their interests, and translate their feedback into actionable product insights.

You are a strong writer, communicator, and relationship builder. You understand developers and have a strong understanding of their motivations and interests. You are self-driven and creative at working through issues when there are challenges. This role will work closely with external customers and internal teams including marketing, creative, product and engineering. You will play a critical part within the Marketing team and will help build and scale the Marqeta brand during this exciting time of fast-paced growth.

What You'll Do

  • Own developer relations strategy and execution for the company
  • Nurture and grow our online developer community 
  • Advocate for developers' needs internally within the company to improve our overall developer platform
  • Monitor developer satisfaction and be an internal champion for the resolution of critical developer issues
  • Plan and host hackathons and other developer-centric events both virtual and in-person to engage the community and inspire new ideas to make Marqeta’s product and developer experience even better
  • Create and execute a Customer Marketing plan that uses our highest impact customers to tell the Marqeta story to build credibility and help acquire new customers
  • Set clear goals, measure KPIs, and constantly use data to learn, improve and prioritize  

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of technical B2B marketing experience with a focus on developer relations and marketing
  • Passion for growing and nurturing developer communities 
  • Demonstrated success in building and sustaining an online community
  • Natural passion for always putting the developer first and constantly building developer empathy to understand their motivations and pain points 
  • Experience effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams including marketing, creative, sales, customer success, product and legal.
  • Ability to build strategic plans and execute them flawlessly
  • Detail-oriented: capable of managing complexity while delivering high-quality content, programs and events
  • Must be highly motivated and can find creative solutions when there are customer challenges 
  • Ability to be highly professional with strong communication & relationship skills when interacting with external customers


  • Experience using Khoros community platform
  • Fintech or financial services background, especially in card issuing
