Manager, Settlement Controls Enablement

Position Summary

Marqeta is experiencing exponential growth and is seeking to augment our Settlement Controls organization with additional payments expertise and controls leadership.   The Settlement Controls organization is at the  core of our business with accountability and responsibility of global funds movement and financial accountability for our customers, bank partners, and networks.  We continue to scale through building efficient, responsive, and accurate processes, implementing new tools, controls, and expanding our support services to internal and external customers and banking partners.  We are passionate to ensure customer trust in the MQ platform through transaction processing validation; partner to build funds flows and controls across category defining products; perform daily/monthly functions with operational excellence to ensure customer satisfaction and financial integrity.  Our motto is ‘Ensure globally Program funds are in the right place, at the right time, for the right purpose’.  

We are seeking to expand the team to keep pace with increasing customer business use cases and associated expanded product offerings. This role joins an existing team responsible for designing, building and shepherding projects through completion. This role will be an integral part in the revamping of systems and processes in partnership with our Issuing banking partners, Product and Technology teams. 

What You'll Do

  • Subject Matter Expertise: You will come up to speed on Marqeta's capabilities and will enjoy digging into the intricacies of the Marqeta Platform - the unique features and customer benefits our platform offers, and become an expert with all things Funds Movement at Marqeta
  • Problem Solving: You enjoy problem solving, and always thinking outside of the box to find creative solutions to challenges. You’re able to identify gaps and appropriate solutions to support new products. You will identify process inefficiencies and establish new processes necessary to support product launches and new partner relationships across the globe
  • Payments Savvy: You are a payments geek and are comfortable working in a technical environment, where you are the bridge between Product and Business teams. You will leverage your deep payments expertise to advise on new product functionality requirements necessary to support operations from Beta phase through full scalable launch
  • Thought Leader: You will leverage your payments and MQ platform expertise to provide guidance on necessary product features and drive innovative solutions to operational challenges. You will proactively seek ways to improve current processes and partner cross functionally to drive identified opportunities
  • Scaling mindset: You’ll collaborate with our Product and Business teams to provide product requirements and develop scalable processes to support new offerings in support of MQ’s global payments strategy. 

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate should possess a strong business acumen and relentless pursuit of improving on the Status Quo. This individual can clearly see the big picture, yet be savvy and curious enough to be able and willing to dig in the weeds. Equally important is having demonstrated success and desire in solving problems and driving results. Furthermore, we are looking for candidates who have a keen sense of ownership, being adaptive to a fast-changing environment, and a high curiosity to learn about innovations in the payments industry.

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years’ experience in the payments industry
  • Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem. Must have in depth experience with Payments Acquiring or Issuing and at least some of the following: Payment Gateways, International Payment Operations, cross border payments (SWIFT), high value and low value payment systems, deep experience working with Payment Networks such as Visa/Mastercard, Alternate Payment Methods, ACH
  • The ability to straddle roles as a Product Manager, Data Analyst, Process Flow Designer and Relationship Manager, equally willing to perform analysis and dig deep into extracting industry requirements and best practices
  • Strong ability to understand and connect the dots on how different parts of the business drive funds movements and impact Settlement Controls team functions and staffing
  • Strong analytical skills, good problem-solving, judgment and decision-making skills with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented is a must
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Highly proficient in Excel (Complex Formulas is a plus)
