Sales Engineer & Card Operations Manager

Position Summary

Marqeta is looking for a highly driven, experienced Sales Engineer who will support the Business Development and Customer Success teams at Marqeta in Asia Pacific. You will engage with new customer opportunities, help respond to inbound opportunities, and work closely with our account executives to shepherd deals from opening, through to contract and closing stage. Beyond pre-sales, you'll be expected to lead operational tasks to ensure Marqeta readiness with the card schemes, digital wallet and our card fulfillment providers. In addition, you will support our Delivery Teams as customers integrate to our platform, go live, and ramp. 

The Business Development team plays a vital role in growing Marqeta's revenue and increasing the overall portfolio of our partnerships. We are looking for a sales engineer whose professional DNA is rooted in both Technology and Sales. Your work will inevitably include networking to build relationships, contributing to sales presentations, workflow modeling, solution design and ensuring our customers fully grasp the value in our platform. Key to this role is an ability to understand Marqeta's technology, expertly communicate its benefits, and win the trust of the product and technology teams of our potential partners. 

We're looking for someone who knows payments and loves payments technology, but who also could have fashioned themselves a sales and BD executive.

What You'll Do

This role is about generating and closing new opportunities, while playing a key role supporting the Business Development Team - here are a few key expectations:

  • Know the Tech: Quickly get up to speed on Marqeta's technical capabilities, the unique features and customer benefits our platform offers and how to speak with confidence, knowledge and credibility about what we bring to our customers. This is likely to include working with our Product and Technology teams, and serving as a liaison and "voice of our customers" when engaging with them.
  • Support the Sales Process: From your first day, you will be expected to work on real customer opportunities through a sales process, from initial engagement to pricing discussions to final contract negotiations. At any given time, you may be supporting as many as 20 - 30 opportunities in various stages of that process.
  • Network Administration: Operational engagement with clients, partners and networks to oversee BIN set up inline with best practices and are live in time for program launch. This includes providing support to our banking partners as they set up and configure the card programs.
  • Card Issuance: Be the primary point of contact in Asia Pacific for Card Fulfillment and Tokenization (including TaaS). This includes supporting the completion, of chip profiles for physical cards, and supporting our partners and clients through the successful xPay integration.

What We're Looking For

This is a role for a payments technology expert, ideally with real experience on the issuing side of the payments ecosystem. We’re on the hunt for the following attributes:

  • 5+ years experience in a relevant Sales Engineer role in card payments
  • Understand how to support the sales cycle from lead to opportunity to live account
  • Familiarity and ease with technology, B2B technology applications and how payments technology platforms serve customer businesses
  • Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously; highly motivated and able to work against aggressive schedules
  • Superior communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, presentation written, email)
  • Positive attitude, team player, adaptable, resourceful, and self-starter who is able to work independently
