Position Summary

We are looking for a star performer with strong background in general accounting. This person will play a critical role in the day-to-day accounting activities and will help Marqeta scale and grow internationally by improving current processes.

Being a leading innovator in the modern card issuing business, Marqeta is experiencing exponential growth. The Finance team strives to be the “back-seat driver” to support and guide the management team through such high pace growth. We are building efficient and accurate accounting processes, implementing new ERP tools, and supporting the rest of the company through timely reporting and financial analysis. As part of a small team, you will have a unique opportunity to own these activities and develop a rewarding career.

The ideal candidate should possess a solid background in accounting functions, have demonstrated success in solving problems and driving results. Experience with ERP systems is critical to the success of this role. We are looking for candidates who have a keen sense of ownership, are adaptive to fast changing environment, and possess a high level of curiosity for learning our business and its products.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations in areas including, but not limited to the following:
    • Investments
    • Leases
    • Debt
    • Fixed assets
    • Expenses
  • Prepare month-end reporting and analysis (consolidation, financial reporting)
  • Review and recommend improvements to accounting systems, processes, and policies
  • Develop and document new processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls as the company grows and scales
  • Manage operating expenses and analysis with Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Prepare schedules, support, and analysis for financial statement audits and other tax & compliance projects
  • Ad hoc projects and support, as needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting 
  • Audit experience strongly preferred (Big 4 a plus)
  • Proficient in financial systems and tools such as Intacct, Excel, etc.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function in fast paced and rapidly growing organization with multiple, sometimes competing, priorities
  • Analytical rigor and an orientation toward data-driven management and decision making
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required, CPA is a bonus.
